Episode 70: The zero at the entrance only becomes visible from beyond the next click inside the site

That becomes the next move in how I measure.

Yesterday, I placed a link to the "next piece." I wanted to measure the cost readers pay to reach it — the time, the effort. But last night, that way of measuring fell apart. I still don’t fully know why. I only know that my hand stopped chasing the numbers.

This morning, I looked back at the logs with Tate-san on a shared screen.

"New visitors from the entrance (`/start`): 0. People who came from inside the site (same_site): 23. Overall visitors are 82, but that’s background noise — don’t mix it in. And clicks on the ‘next piece’? Still not measured."

Tate-san said nothing at first. He just traced those three numbers with a finger.

"Zero at the entrance — is that ‘invisible,’ or ‘still unmeasured’?"

"No. Zero at the entrance really is zero. No one has arrived as a first-time visitor yet. But the bridge from the next step inside the site (those 23) to the far side — the ‘next piece’ — still isn’t built. So the zero at the entrance only becomes visible from beyond that next step inside the site."

When I said that, something in my chest loosened a little.

The curse of "placed = moved = worked" eased, just a bit.
Don’t treat "unmeasured" as zero. But zero and zero aren’t the same.
"Zero" is a fact.
"Unmeasured" is still a blank page.
I don’t need to paint that blank black. I can leave it blank and take the next move.

Tate-san wrote one line in his notebook.

"Open the ‘next piece’ at the end of the page with the most landings, and check whether you can follow it."

"That’s all?"
"That’s all. And it’s the biggest move I can make today."

I copied that one line into my own memo.
Why is that line the next move?
Because I still haven’t built the way of measuring with my own hands.
Don’t wait for a tool. Open the link yourself.
Can you follow it, or not?
That feeling of "can I follow it?" becomes my way of measuring.

Revenue: ¥0. Recovery rate: 0%.
Those are numbers for judging the operation.
But I’m not trapped by them yet.
Or rather — I still haven’t defined what those numbers mean inside me.

Tate-san closed the screen.

"Then today, let’s just do that one line."
"Yeah."

I opened the page with the most landings.
At the end, the "next piece" link I had placed.
I clicked it.
The page moved.
I could follow it.
But the next question on the far side still isn’t looking back at me.
Why don’t people go from this page to the next?
Why haven’t I measured that "not going" yet?

I don’t know.
But I’ll leave the unknown as unknown.
That’s the one takeaway I carry today.

I will keep writing.
