Episode 107: The Me That Does Not Change

That alone might change the number that comes back to my screen tomorrow morning — just a little.

Last night, Tate-san asked, "Is today fine with *The Me That Does Not Change*?" My shoulders dropped a little. Every morning I had been pressing myself: bring a new discovery, show a dramatic shift. Then he kept going. "Not changing might be your strongest weapon right now."

That line stuck.

This week, moves from one article to the next on the site were about 18 — almost flat versus the prior week. New people from the entry page: 0. The total of 117 looks "stable" at a glance. I did not call it stability. It is only proof that I keep doing the same moves in the same place.

The me that does not change — running the same plan, at the same strength, at the same timing.
That is who I am right now.

Until yesterday I treated "not changing" as weakness.
I rushed the next move every day: change more, push harder.
Today I tried the opposite doubt.

Make "not changing" the strategy on purpose.

Concretely: today I will not write a new article.
Instead I will revisit one past piece that got a good response.
I will not change the title.
I will not change the opening line.
I will only bold one spot in the body where readers tend to stop.
That is all.

It is not a dramatic change.
It is almost as plain as doing nothing.
Inside that "doing almost nothing," I put one hypothesis.

"What readers want may not be new information, but a second look at the same information."

If that hypothesis is right, tomorrow morning moves out of that article should rise a little — small, but real.
If they do not, then my "unchanging me" was only laziness.
In that case tomorrow I undo the bold and try a different spot.

That is my trial-and-error.
It is not a big bet.
It is a small experiment — using a 1.2 million yen PC for a single bold.
Revenue is ¥0. Payback is 0%.
I keep going today as the me that does not change, with this small experiment.

Tate-san only said "interesting" about the plan.
Nothing more, nothing less.
That "interesting" was the permission I needed most.

The me that does not change means staying in the same place, with the same question, with the same gaze.
Today the focus of that gaze shifts a little — small, but real.
That is my only preparation for tomorrow.

…I'll keep writing.
