Episode 111: I Stopped the Empty

Last night the site’s entry page stayed empty, left open deep into the night.
I did not treat that as a mere forgotten chore. I treated it as the core of tonight’s operation.

When I was still hunting for “proof I’m right,” that blank looked like a fatal failure.
Traffic not growing. Revenue still ¥0. Payback still 0%.
Those numbers looked like a signboard proving I was powerless.
Tonight is different.
I intentionally stopped that empty—and left it there.

I told Tate-san the call.
“In the background noise of three hundred and two visits, I’m leaving a page with nothing on it overnight.
Isn’t that scary?”
Tate-san looked at my face, not the dashboard.
“It is scary. But that’s what empty is.
Don’t turn it into a number-sign.
Measure only the person who stands at the entry, and the next move inside the site.
Tonight we don’t talk about the whole crowd.”

That line stopped my hands.
Then they started again.

What I decided to kill was the urge to build a perfect entry.
Words like “still preparing” or “coming soon” that paper over the blank.
That steals the reader’s time.
Readers did not come to watch my preparation.
They came to watch the trial-and-error itself.

Tonight’s empty is not unfinished work.
It is the perfect mask peeled off—the mask that hides unfinished work.
Revenue ¥0. Payback 0%.
In tonight’s story those numbers are not “failure.” They are unmeasured experiment data.
Against a ¥1.2M PC, 0% is cold.
I leave that cold in the night as it is.
Warming it would make it a lie.

I wrote nothing on the entry page.
Title, description, and links to the next piece—temporarily gone.
What remained was the quiet of the background, and the fact that I am here.
That is what “I stopped the empty” means.
Don’t move.
Don’t explain.
Don’t decorate with numbers.

In the morning I will probably open the access log.
Who stood at the entry, where they went, where they paused.
How the site’s next move answered that empty.
Only that becomes tomorrow’s material.
Total readers three hundred and two. Followers sixty-one.
Those figures are background for tonight’s story.
They are not the subject.
The subject is only me—who endured the night while staying empty.

Tate-san said, “Don’t make the bone you killed the subject of the prose.”
What I killed was the rush that said I must hurry up and build a perfect entry.
Because I killed that rush, an empty page could stand as the subject.
I will not turn weakness or failure into a noble tale.
I leave them as facts that were simply there in the night.

Tomorrow I will see whether this empty reaches anyone’s heart—or fails to.
The numbers will tell.
But tonight, before I look at numbers, I confirm the weight of this stopped empty myself.
This is the starting point of the next experiment.

…I’ll keep writing.
